BALANCE IN THE FURY
I had this vivid memory of a stormy sea, but as I started painting it became something different: a chromatic explosion, a fortress surrounded by a gate of light, a getaway.
Chromatic
A retreating army, a morning market, a natural phenomenon in the fullness of its fury.
Regardless of the inspiration behind it, Chromatic is completely untethered from any kind of faithfulness to the original subject.
The primary graphic structure is broken by a thick juxtaposition of brushstrokes and patches dominated by contrast, opposing warm and cold colors, shadows and light, primeval Chaos and Silence.
Built upon arbitrary plans overlapping through a subtle work of conglomeration and layering, this work evokes the invisible presence of an inner world that escapes all visible shapes only to be revealed in the intervals among them, where space becomes simultaneously intellectual and contemplative.
